For Our Next Trick…

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

“…we’ll be playing Rock & Roll.”  Those were the words of the lead singer of the Hives tonight at the Verizon Center as they opened for Maroon 5.  They are playing a full set at the Black Cat on Wednesday night, and whatever your plans, are change them and go see this Swedish Rock and Roll band and let them woo you.  You will be in love by the end of the night - with their energy, their banter, and their music.

Get up and dance

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Sorry for the late notice but tonight (and it’s a beautiful day, and I think it will be a lovely night) is Right Round (as in you spin me right round baby, right round) at the Black Cat (14th & S, NW), hosted by our very favorite DJ - Lil’ e.  Starts around 10, gets hoppin’ around 11, stays fun til 2.  I always have a blast and the only people who don’t just don’t like fun and you don’t want to be on that list, do you?

And mark your calendar now for July 20th and a special night at the Black Cat with Lil’ e - a special dance party of her own design.

Art o Rama

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Or Art-o-Matic which is this weekend.  A bunch of it is usually crap but then you find one or two things that make it all worth while.  A couple of my friends are exhibiting, and it’s going to be a rainy, nasty day, so hop on the Metro and head for the underground of Crystal City and find a new local artist to support.  There’s live music and performance art too.

Say Goodbye to Hockey

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

It’s always seemed strange to me that with the playoffs, hockey season stretches until June, but this year the Caps have had a tough time and their season will end this Saturday. One standard feature of the end of the regular season for the Capitals is Fan Appreciation Week . The last regular season game (against Buffalo this year) ends with the players literally taking the shirts off their backs and passing them on to fans chosen by random drawing.

If you haven’t been to a game in a while, this is a nice chance to go see them and as always tell Buffalo, “Just wait until next year.” (more…)

I Feel Pretty

Think of Spa Week like Restaurant Week for day spas. The idea is to get you to try new treatments at a reduced cost that you might not otherwise spring for. In DC this fall Spa Week is October 16 - 22. The participating spas and salons and their deals are available today. Make your reservations early - they do fill up and if there’s someplace you’ve been really wanting to try, you don’t want to be disappointed. And a spa treatment is a great activity to invite a new friend along for - get pedicures together.

Spa Week isn’t confined to DC. Check out the specials in other cities if you’re looking for gifts or you’ll be traveling.

Signs of Fall

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Driving along I-270 last week, I saw the first few red leaves on the trees, then today I notices bright yellow leaves falling from trees in Chevy Chase and then the Bethesda Starbucks had Pumpkin Spice Latte today, so of course I had to have one. And Great Country Farms included apples in the box from the farm this week. So I think it can no longer be denied, fall is definitely here. I’ll be sharing some of my favorite fall activities, but what are your signs that fall is here?
